1. Keep Your Tyre Pressures Correct
This is the single most important thing you can do. Under-inflated tyres wear faster on the edges — see our complete tyre pressure guide for recommended pressures. Under-inflated tyres also wear faster on the edges, use more fuel, and generate excess heat. Over-inflated tyres wear faster in the centre and give a harsher ride.
If your tyres are wearing unevenly despite correct pressure, you may need a wheel alignment check.
Check your pressures at least monthly using a reliable gauge. The correct pressure for your vehicle is on a sticker inside the driver's door.
2. Get Regular Wheel Alignments
Even slightly misaligned wheels will cause uneven wear, which can dramatically shorten tyre life. We recommend an alignment check every 10,000 km or whenever you fit new tyres.
3. Rotate Your Tyres
Front tyres wear differently to rears because they handle steering and most of the braking. Rotating your tyres every 8,000-10,000 km ensures they wear evenly, meaning you'll replace all four at the same time rather than two at a time.
4. Drive Smoothly
Aggressive driving — hard braking, fast cornering, and rapid acceleration — wears tyres faster. Smooth, anticipatory driving not only extends tyre life but saves fuel and is safer too.
5. Avoid Overloading
Every tyre has a load rating for a reason. Consistently carrying heavy loads beyond what your tyres are rated for causes excessive heat and wear. If you're a tradie or regularly carry heavy gear, make sure your tyres are rated for the job.
Bonus Tip: Store Correctly
If you have a set of seasonal tyres (or a spare set of wheels), store them in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight and chemicals. UV and heat degrade rubber over time.
